The Proof is in the Pudding

by: Bob Reccord

A few weeks ago I did an entry titled MAKE THE MOST OF MENTORING! I am looking forward to this weekend because I am going to be with one of the young couples for which Cheryl and I have had the privilege of serving as two of their mentors. What a blast to see them effectively giving their life away in service to people and making a Kingdom difference. Cheryl will be ministering to the women on Saturday morning at the church in O’Fallon, Missouri and then I will be speaking on Sunday and have the privilege of spending time with the staff and their spouses Sunday night.

What a joy it is to see investment giving a return…whether it be financial, emotional or any other way. But there is something that is hard to describe when you see a person in whom you have invested a little taking big steps to make an eternal difference! Thanks Jonathan and Julie for letting us play a little part in your lives…and the lives of those with whom you serve!

    What a great weekend!
While I know that our church was blessed by both of you (i’ve been thanked countless times already for bringing you guys to O’Fallon … as well, i’ve been asked when i’m bringing you back!) …
while i know we as a church were blessed, i can’t even begin to put a value on the time Julie and i got to share with you.

I would wish for every young minister the opportunity that Julie and i have in knowing you and Cheryl. From “Blueprints for a Healthy Marriage” to mentoring in your home, to a weekends at O’Fallon and whatever else the Lord might have in store … this little family, this young minister … who we are becoming in Christ … has much to do with your investment.

As Julie and i get to sort of “debrief” after a weekend like this, we find ourselves thankful for the extra time, outside of the speaking and preaching … time that we just simply got to spend with you.
It’s that time, whether it be one on one or two on two, that i’m so thankful for.
Julie and i have been blessed in so many ways … but to have couples in our lives … couples exemplifying a love for God, His work, each other, and their own families … this is something every seminary student, every young minister and his family need … and that’s definitely what we have when we think of you guys. My prayer would be for the other guys and ladies out there … either the ones who need mentors or the ones who should be at the task of becoming them!

I’m sorry if i’m writing too much, but when you’re cup is overflowing, that often happens.

Bob and Cheryl, hopefully, like your blog says and your sermon spoke, you were able to see a little bit of return on your investment. I look forward to the days and relationship ahead … please know that we stand ready to serve in any way we can.
